YOUR EXPERIENCE

Jervis Bay, located 2h30 drive south of Sydney, is well known by the kitesurfing community, as this is where most of the NSW kite events happen.  The bay offers several spots to kite and is great for downwinders.

There is indeed always the possibility for light winds in NSW, which could prevent kiting, but hopefully, with the crystal-blue waters and white sandy beaches, the place offers plethora of activities (SUP, surf, snorkeling, beach volley, …).

Freshie has rented a charming villa, located only 200m from Callala Beach, so we can directly walk from the accommodation to the white-sand beach and pump our kites or simply go for a refreshing morning swim in the bay.

The two-story house is perfect for a relaxing getaway, either chilling in the backyard with the bay view and a drink or enjoying the pool and tennis tables inside.

Tasty and nourishing meals (3 Dinners, 2 Lunches, 2 Breakfasts)
– 2 Sun Rise Yoga Sessions
– Paddle Boarding and SUP Ball Tournament

FAQ

By car:
Jervis Bay is approximately 2h30 from Sydney by car. As you head south, you can enjoy stunning vies and peaceful coastline. It is also 3 hours drive from Canberra (with several route options – but many choose one which winds up through Kangaroo Valley at it can be scenic, but more time consuming.

If you don’t have a car to drive to Jervis Bay, please contact us as we will try to arrange a car sharing with other Freshie members joining the retreat.

By public transport:
From Sydney, it is possible to take a train to bring you with fair swiftness to Nowra (~30 min drive from Jervis Bay). If this is the best option for you, please contact us and we could arrange a pick-up at the station for an additional fee.

By air:
Although Jervis Bay does boast its own airport, your best bet when coming from abroad or from another of Australia’s states or territories is to fly into the more highly-trafficked Sydney airport. Hiring a car after landing is easy enough, but there are also other options to deliver you safely and efficiently to Jervis Bay.

Freshie recommends to take:

– Kitesurfing gears (including kites, board, harness, pump). Note that this is a light wind spot light and we recommend to take a 12+ meters kite. For light-weight person, it is highly recommended to have a 10m kite.
– Wetsuit (or Long Sleeve Rash Vest and Pant). Water will be warm enough so you don’t need a thick wetsuit (a 2/1mm might be more than enough). Nonetheless, covering all your body with clothes is best to prevent sun burn.
– Sun Cream (best is Sun Cream with Zinc). The sun can be strong and without adequate protection, you will catch sun burns quickly
– Cap & Sunglasses
– Flip flops
– Beach towel
– Empty Water Bottle that you can refill (and save the planet from more plastic junk!)

Indeed, we will!

Freshie has invested in a Mavic Pro Drone to get some nice aerial footages and a GoPro equivalent to take some pictures and videos of you from close range.

We already did it in our previous retreats and this enable you to see from a different angle your kite stance and moves! And maybe, we will also capture one of your tricks that you will be able to boast about it with friends and family.

Although we are going in one of the best kitesurfing places of NSW for this retreat, we might be unlucky and not have wind (or not enough wind) to be able to kite. If that ever happens, we will still have plenty of activities to do:
Paddle Boarding: no wind and some flat water? Test your balance and strengthen your core with some SUP!
SUP Ball Tournament: we will organise a SUP Ball Tournament? What is this? It is a mix of netball and basketball on paddleboard! Can’t wait to try? Us too!
Ocean Swim: Crystal-clear water? Amazing white sandy beaches? Who would not fancy a swim?
Beach Volley: Did already say Jervis Bay has “amazing white sandy beaches”?
– Pool and Tennis Tables: Our villa has a pool and a tennis table, so you can display your mastery of these sports!

On top of these, we will have 2 sessions of Yoga and you can book private massages at the villa.

You need to have a valid visa for holidays in Australia.  For more detailed information, please visit the Australia Government – Department of Home Affairs website.

Freshie Watersport Retreats cannot advise on what insurance(s) you need to have to cover yourself and the damages you could do to others, we highly recommend to seek specialist advice.

Generally, one would need to have:
– A travel insurance covering medical assistance in case of personal accident when practicing watersport. Note that kitesurfing is often considered as an “adventurous” or “extreme sport” and can be excluded from basic travel insurance. In case of doubt, engage with your insurer to clarify if you are adequately covered.
– Most travel insurances covering you for “adventurous” sports should also cover for your personal Public and Property Liability, namely it should cover you in case you damage someone’s property and/or bodily injured someone.
– Finally, you need to make sure that your insurances are valid in the place where the Retreat takes place: New South Wales, Australia.
